Connect Your Apps and Reuse Proven Workflows

Answer first: You don't install anything ahead of time. Ask for a task that needs an app ("summarize my unread Gmail", "watch #support in Slack") and Grok Bot shows a connect card. Approve it, and the app becomes available to chats and routines. Then copy a proven workflow prompt and adjust it.
Test status: the routine trigger types (schedule, Slack, GitHub, Linear, Sentry, PagerDuty, email, webhook) and the webhook mechanics come from the official Routines help page, read on 2026-10-16. No connector was connected and no trigger was created in this test.
Who it's for
People who have seen the "20 repos/plugins you need" posts and want the short, practical version for Grok Bot.
Steps
- Connect on demand: ask for the task, then approve the connect card. Only connect what you'll actually use.
- Pick a trigger:
- Schedule: "every weekday at 9:00 AM" (runs can be as close as 5 minutes apart).
- Slack: fires on a Bot mention, a phrase, a reaction, or any message, in one channel or all of them. Keep it narrow.
- GitHub / Linear / Sentry / PagerDuty: fires on events.
- Email: fires on a sender or domain.
- Webhook: the routine shows POST to, a key, and the header
Authorization: Bearer <key>. A 200 response means a run started, not that it finished. - Reuse a workflow: start from a recipe on this site, change the nouns, and keep the "don't send" line.
- Check the routine's When to run, then press Test.
Copy-paste prompt
Set up a routine: when someone posts a message containing "<PHRASE>" in #<CHANNEL> on Slack,
summarize the request and draft a reply for me to approve. Ask me to connect Slack if needed.
Then show me the routine's "When to run" so I can confirm it.
Expected result
One connect card, one routine with a readable trigger, and draft cards for the replies.
Gotchas
- A Slack trigger is part of the routine, not the Slack plugin. Slack must be connected on the account that owns the Bot.
- Only new Slack messages count. Older history never triggers a run.
- "Any message" in a busy channel can use up a week of usage in a day.
- Webhook calls that don't return 200 didn't start a run. Check that the routine isn't paused and that you're using the current key.
FAQ
Can it post in Slack as me automatically? Outgoing messages go through draft cards that you approve.
