Answer first: Tell Grok Bot: "Every weekday at 7:30 AM, build me a brief from X, Hacker News and these sites, with a maximum of 8 items, ranked against my questions." It saves this as a routine that runs in the cloud while your laptop is closed and posts the brief in your chat.
Test status: the sources were tested from the box on 2026-10-16. A public X search returned 10 posts (one call used 1 of the 30 per-minute reads). The Hacker News public API (
hacker-news.firebaseio.com/v0/topstories.json) returned story IDs. A Reddit JSON request from the box did not come back as usable JSON, so Reddit is a "may be blocked" source. No scheduled multi-day run has been done.
Who it's for
Founders, analysts and creators who start the day scrolling five apps for the same information.
Steps
- Write 3–5 current questions, for example "What are competitors shipping in agent email?" Without them, the brief just collects "interesting" items.
- List your sources: X keywords or accounts, Hacker News, and 2–5 site URLs. Treat Reddit as best effort.
- Paste the prompt below. Then open Routines, find the routine, and check When to run.
- Press Test once to see a sample brief, and adjust the item cap if needed.
Copy-paste prompt
Every weekday at 7:30 AM (my timezone), make my morning brief.
My questions: <Q1>; <Q2>; <Q3>.
Sources: public X search for "<KEYWORDS>" and from:<ACCOUNT>; Hacker News top stories; these pages: <URL1>, <URL2>.
Only items from the last 24h. Score each for relevance to my questions (0-5) and keep the top 8 max.
For each: title, link, 2-line summary, why it matters to me. If a source fails, list it at the bottom instead of guessing.
Post the brief here. Don't email anyone.
Expected result
A chat message each weekday with a maximum of 8 linked items, plus a "sources that failed" line when something couldn't be read.
Gotchas
- Cost: one run a day is cheap. Going hourly multiplies your usage by 24.
- A hard item cap keeps the brief readable. If good items keep getting cut, tighten your questions rather than raising the cap.
- One X search returns up to 25 posts. Ask for several narrow searches instead of one broad one.
- Want it by email? It can draft one, but each send needs your approval. There is no unattended sending.
FAQ
Can it read paywalled sites? Only what's publicly readable. It should report a failure rather than make up a summary. Weekends? Change "every weekday" to "every day".
